1. Be sure to hand wash
On the inside of the down jacket, there is a small label with maintenance and washing instructions sewn on it. Careful people will notice that 90% of down jackets indicate hand washing and avoid dry cleaning, as the solution used for dry cleaning can affect warmth and cause fabric aging. Machine washed and spin dried down jackets, after being twisted and stirred, are prone to uneven filling thickness, causing clothing to take shape, affecting aesthetics and warmth.
2. Rinse at 30 degrees water temperature
Soak the down jacket in cold water for 20 minutes first, allowing the inside and outside of the jacket to be fully moistened. Dissolve the detergent in warm water at 30 degrees Celsius, then soak the down jacket in it for 15 minutes, and gently brush it with a soft bristled brush. Rinsing should also be done with warm water, which can help the detergent fully dissolve in water and make the down jacket rinse cleaner.
3. The concentration of laundry detergent used should not be too high
If it is necessary to use laundry detergent to clean down jackets, it is usually advisable to put 4 to 5 tablespoons of laundry detergent into two basins of water. If the concentration is too high, it is difficult to rinse thoroughly. The residual laundry detergent in down jackets can affect their fluffiness and greatly reduce their warmth.
4. It is best to use neutral detergent
Neutral detergents have the least damage to clothing and down. When using alkaline detergents, if not rinsed thoroughly, the remaining detergent can cause damage to the down jacket and easily leave white marks on the surface of the clothing, affecting its appearance. To remove residual alkaline detergent, two small spoons of vinegar can be added to warm water after rinsing twice. Soak the down jacket in warm water for a while before rinsing. Vinegar can neutralize the alkaline detergent.
5. Cannot be wrung dry
After washing the down jacket, it should not be wrung dry. The water should be squeezed out and then laid flat or hung to dry. It is prohibited to expose it to the sun and do not iron it to avoid scalding the clothes. After drying, gently pat the down jacket to restore its fluffiness and softness.
